First Review of Gifted Hands: Saino no aru te

The first review of Gifted Hands by Kenneth Fenter is in.

After the loss of his wife, Charlie departs on a world tour to assuage his grief. He is convinced to start his tour in Japan, a place he hasn’t seen in two decades, since he was stationed there while in the Army.

Many old memories return, not the least of which, is the memory of the young Japanese teacher he once loved and lost.

Charlie’s re-introduction to Japanese customs, foods, language and locales makes for some fascinating reading. Ken Fenter’s descriptions of Charlie’s ensuing adventure in Japan brings this exotic location to life.

I learned so much about this wonderful country while reading the book and found that I couldn’t put it down. As the story unfolds it picks up pace and with a little bit of mystery thrown in, it hooks the reader with some intrigue. This is coupled with a beautiful love story. At times, I even cried as I read. It is an extraordinary story with wonderfully drawn out characters, and a beautiful setting. This book was a delight to read. Lori Baer
